What does the archive difference mean in practice?
With Fireflies, every conversation is stored in a searchable archive. You can find it later, search through it and share it with colleagues. Useful if you want to keep everything; it also means your conversations sit in another company's database.
Notuly is a pass-through, not an archive. The audio is processed and deleted within a minute; the report is emailed and then deleted too. There is no database and no central store.
Not because we couldn't build one, but because your conversations don't belong with us. What we don't store can't leak.
Say you're sitting opposite a client, confidential figures on the table. Afterwards, the question isn't just "do I get a decent report?" but also "where is that recording now?". That isn't a quality difference between the two tools; it's a design choice, and it decides which tool fits your conversations.
Does Notuly work in Teams, Zoom or Google Meet too?
Yes. The desktop app for macOS and Windows captures your video meeting straight from your laptop, with no bot in your meeting. Fireflies records through a bot by default and offers bot-free recording on its paid plans; with Notuly there is simply no bot on any plan, so nobody extra ever appears in the participant list.
That works hybrid too: Daniël is in the meeting room with the desktop app running, while Sam and Leila join through Teams. One recording, one report, in all three inboxes within ten minutes.
When do you choose Fireflies?
When the archive is exactly what you're after: lots of online meetings, keeping everything, searching past conversations by topic and sharing them with the team. And when you need integrations: with 100+ connections to CRM, Slack and Notion, Fireflies is stronger there than Notuly.
When do you choose Notuly?
When you don't want your conversations stored anywhere. The client conversation with confidential figures, the intake meeting, the performance review: report in your inbox, audio deleted, done.
And when you want one notetaker for in-person, hybrid and online. In the room, your phone on the table is enough; online, you start the desktop app. Processing on Dutch servers in Amsterdam, with our own AI, no American cloud in the route.
Is a data processing agreement enough, or does data need to stay in the EU?
Note the difference: a data processing agreement is not the same as EU storage. With Fireflies you sign a data processing agreement on every plan, but your data still sits in the US by default. Dedicated EU storage only comes with the Enterprise plan at $39 per user per month.
With Notuly, processing happens in Amsterdam by default, on every licence. For organisations in healthcare, in local government and in legal services, that's often the deciding factor: the data route stops being a discussion with the IT department or the data protection officer.
How well do they work in languages other than English?
Both support languages beyond English. Fireflies is an American product with an international user base; its transcription is strong in English, but more variable in Dutch, especially when people talk over each other or speak with a regional accent.
Notuly was built in the Netherlands and optimised for Dutch conversations. It recognises more than 90 spoken languages and handles multilingual conversations. The fairest test: record the same conversation with both and compare the reports.
Can Fireflies and Notuly run side by side?
Yes, they work independently of each other. Some teams keep Fireflies for the internal stand-ups that are fine in the archive, and reach for Notuly for everything that isn't: the client conversation on site, the negotiation, the home visit.
A consultant runs the project meeting with Fireflies and the confidential advisory conversation with Notuly. A local council holds its committee meeting online and lets Notuly capture the home visit. A construction firm discusses the schedule over Teams and takes the site meeting in the cabin with Notuly.
