Does Otter understand Dutch?
No. Otter transcribes six languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Chinese (Simplified). As of August 2026, Dutch is not among them, according to Otter's own help centre. That's not a detail: the report stands or falls by a transcript that's right, and a transcript that's right starts with the language.
Picture an account manager who's told to give Otter a try and records a client conversation in Dutch. Afterwards, two things turn out to be wrong: the transcript is useless, because the conversation wasn't in one of Otter's six languages, and the recording is sitting on a server in the United States. Two details, both decisive, and neither visible until the conversation has already happened.

Does Notuly work in Teams, Zoom or Google Meet too?
Yes. The desktop app for macOS and Windows captures your video meeting straight from your laptop. Where Otter shows up as an extra participant in the meeting, with Notuly the person on the other end of the call sees no one listening in.
That covers hybrid meetings too: Daniël sits in the meeting room with the desktop app running, while Sam and Leila join through Teams. One recording, one report, in all three inboxes within ten minutes.
What does Otter do with your conversations?
Every conversation ends up in a searchable archive on Amazon servers in the United States. That storage is properly secured, with AES-256 encryption and a SOC 2 Type 2 certification; on that front, Otter has its house in order.
Training is where it gets more sensitive. Otter trains its AI on de-identified recordings and transcripts, in the words of its own privacy policy, and asks for explicit consent before any manual review. In August 2025 that led to a class action in California, alleging that conversations were recorded and used for training without clear consent; that is an allegation, not a verdict.
Notuly does the opposite: processing on our own servers in Amsterdam, the audio deleted within a minute of processing, no archive and never any training on your conversations. More on that under security.
Is a data processing agreement enough, or does data have to stay in the EU?
Note the difference: a data processing agreement settles the terms, not the jurisdiction. An American company falls under American law, even when the servers sit somewhere else. "We've signed a data processing agreement" and "our data stays in Europe" are not the same statement.
For a run-of-the-mill team meeting, that may barely matter. For a confidential client, patient or case conversation it does; organisations in healthcare, in local government and in legal services weigh this for each type of conversation. With Notuly, processing takes place in Amsterdam as standard, on every licence.
When do you choose Otter?
When you mostly meet online and in English. Otter has been around since 2016, claims millions of users and is a strong product for that job: it transcribes live during the meeting, files everything in a searchable archive with AI chat, and connects to Slack, Salesforce, HubSpot and Notion.
If you want everything findable in one place and pushed straight into your CRM, Otter goes further there than Notuly does. The trade-off is that Dutch is missing, and that every conversation is kept, outside the EU.
When do you choose Notuly?
When your conversations are in Dutch, or in one of the 90-plus other languages Notuly understands, and you want a single notetaker for in-person, hybrid and online. A Tuesday afternoon: a client conversation at the table, a phone in the middle, someone presses record.
An hour later the recording stops, and within ten minutes the report, with the decisions and the action points, is in everyone's inbox. And because Notuly recognises each speaker separately, the report gets who said what right as well.

Can Otter and Notuly run side by side?
Yes, they work independently of each other. Some teams keep Otter for the international meetings in English that may go into the archive, and pick Notuly for everything else: the client conversation on location, the hybrid project meeting through the desktop app, the home visit.
A sales team gives the international demo in English with Otter and runs the Dutch client conversation with Notuly. A local council runs its English-language regional meetings online and lets Notuly capture the home visits. They solve different problems.
